The 2024 General Ibrahim Attahiru Foundation Scholarship

General Ibrahim Attahiru (Late) was the 21st Nigerian Chief of Army Staff who was born on 10th August 1966. (Wikipedia). 

He was appointed the Nigerian COAS by the President Muhammad Buhari Government on 28th January, 2021. However, his tenure as a service Chief was short-lived as a result of his involvement in an air crash that claimed his life and the lives of ten other soldiers onboard on 21st May, 2021.

Brief History of the Scholarship: 

To mark the 3rd anniversary of the passing away of the COAS, a scholarship grant has been announced for Children of Nigerian soldiers and veterans in Nigerian universities starting from the year 2024/2025 session.

The award shall be selected from the best performing students in all Command Secondary Schools in the six geopolitical zones including the Federal capital territory at equal opportunity.


Aim and Objectives

  1. To grant financial relieves to Children or dependents of Nigerian soldiers/veterans 
  2. To promote and encourage university education in the area of Sciences, Engineering, Technology & Mathematics (STEM),
  3. To promote girl child education and 
  4. To mentor pool of responsible scholars who will be inspired to mentor others.

Eligiblity Criteria:

  1. Must be one of the  student from any command secondary schools across Nigeria 
  2. Must have performed incredibly well in both WAEC & JAMB
  3. Must have gotten admission to study in any Federal University within Nigeria.
  4. Must be a child or dependent of a Nigerian Army personnel or veterans. 
  5. Must be studying science based courses 

Method of selection: 

  1. Selection shall be based on gender equality, 
  2. 10 best students shall be chosen from each of the geopolitical zones and the FCT making it a total of 70; for the first round.
  3. After a brief computer based test and panel screening, beneficiaries shall be selected based on performance.
