2024 ACC Doctorate scholarship at the University of Cape Town, South Africa.

As part of CLAIMS energy project funded by  Danish International Development Agency  (DANIDA), the African Center for Cities invites  qualified and interested individuals for her 2024 PhD scholarship attainable at the University of Cape Town, South Africa.

Brief history: 

The African Center for Cities is an initiative of the University of Cape Town, established in the year 2007.

The initiative is aimed at promoting Urban research and policy formulation in order to promote vibrant and sustainable urban development in South Africa. This is why it was kick-started from the school of architecture, planning and geo-informaticts even though it cuts across other disciplines.

Categories of this program: 

The program has three different packages following a funding secured for two slots each for PhD and Masters programs.

WP1:

This will be supervised by Dr Karen Waltorp from the University of Copenhagen, Denmark.

WP2:

This will be supervised by Dr Liza Cirolia at ACC

WP3:

This will take an insight from WP1 and WP2 and it will focus on so many views about structural citizenship.

Call for papers: 

Interested doctorate students are by this publication requested to put up applications for this scholarship. Applicants are given the free will to design their research topics but it must align with the visions of the programs. The studies will focus on housing issues around Khayelitsha areas.

Eligibility criteria:

Applicants must:
  1. Have finished a masters degree program in related academic field,
  2. Have demonstrated strong prove good academic performances in his/her previous academic journeys 
  3. have registered for a full-time PhD programs at the University of Cape Town, department of environmental and geographical science.
  4. comply with the university's policies ,
  5. engage in research works that follow the pattern of this program.
  6. Also be willing to travel to Europe for an exchange program.

Documents required: 

  1. Application letter stating why you want to undertake the PhD programs, experiences and skills.
  2. A copy of academic transcripts and certificates, 
  3. Scanned copy of a curriculum vitae.
